Nick is a writer in New York when he gets posted to a bureau in Greece. He has waited 30 years for this. He wants to know why his mother was killed in the civil war years earlier. In a parallel plot line we see Nick as a young boy and his family as they struggle to survive in the occupied Greek hillside. 片名完全可以叫My Children.一个母亲为保护孩子而做的正当行为竟被认为是通敌叛国而折磨而死，从一家人身上影射希腊内战的残酷。拍摄手法类似德黑兰1943，在现代和历史中反复穿梭，故事的最后John与凶手的对峙很经典。但个人来讲，不是太喜欢这类严肃敏感题材的作品。John早期似乎尤其钟爱这类题材。
