Coming to Hollywood as a celebrated boy genius featuring a spectacular career arc in New York including his radio hoax War of the Worlds, Orson Welles is stymied on the subject for his first film. After a dinner party at Hearst Castle, during which he has a verbal altercation with William Randolph Hearst, Welles decides to do a movie about Hearst. It takes him some time to convince co-writer Herman J. Mankiewicz and the studio, but Welles eventually gets the script and the green light, keeping the subject very hush-hush with the press. The movie is about an aging newspaper publisher who controlled his enemies as ruthlessly as he controlled his friends; and whose mistress was destined for fame. 这片子几乎可以算是Mank的反面了，一个像白痴一样实际木讷却要强撑才华的Orson和一个无能的跟班Mankiewicz。这里Orson成了勇斗Hearst的战士Mank反而成了劝退党。不得不说这些片子拍得就像是直接从八卦杂志出来的。Schreiber这个卡司是彻彻底底的失败，完全没有Orson那种年轻的天才气质 愚钝无比还自以为是，表演上更是完全无法和Oldman相提并论了。至于拍摄过程几场采用的欢快节奏和快摇实在有点莫名其妙 而把鸡毛蒜皮的事情当做拍摄的困难是实在没有什么可说了吗？全片竟然都在伦敦拍的 也是很神奇了。唯一的优点就是这片子至少没有跟Mank一样装腔作势 以模仿公民凯恩的美学形式来强加自己和原片的亲密关系

作为一部电视电影比想象中好一些，有些能扣人心弦的时刻。
比起MANK 這個版本著重在拍攝過程 不過Marion Davies被描寫的似乎不是太聰明

我看這部反而沒睡著。。
《公民凯恩》的电视翻拍版。小时候在HBO台看过。当时觉得故事很牛逼。
美工很棒，好莱坞化就不说了，这个选角实在太失败
天极还是时代的花絮，现在连谍报都搜不到了，啥也不说了
